Build your own wooden goal for the 2024 European Football Championship!
The 2024 European Football Championship is just around the corner, and the excitement is building. What better way to get into the spirit than by crafting your very own wooden goal? This way, you can recreate those thrilling matches right at home in your own backyard.
A summer filled with fun! Not only while watching the matches, but when you’re kicking a ball around with your kids too, and best of all, when building your wooden goal together.
But first... a crash course on scoring goals!
Score big with these tips
While you head to the DIY store to pick up the wood and tools you'll need, start thinking about how you’ll get the ball past the goalkeeper. Here are some tips:
-
Assume a good starting position: don't keep the ball too close to your foot, lightly kick it away from you before you shoot it at the wooden goal.
-
Aim where the goalkeeper isn’t, so look for an open space in the net. If the goalkeeper’s closer to you, try kicking the ball over them and into the net. Decide whether to go for power with a less precise shot or for more accuracy with a gentler kick.
-
Shooting from a distance? Use the instep of your foot for powerful shots. Make sure your last stride is big, swing your leg back, and lean your torso back slightly. Then, swing your leg forward with a strong, extended ankle.
-
Closer to the goal? Use the inside of your foot, so you can aim with precision. Your supporting leg should be close to the ball and your shooting leg turned outward. Keep your knee and ankle slightly bent. Now aim… and score!
-
How high or low should you shoot the ball? When you kick the ball in the middle, or slightly lower, it will stay low. To send it soaring, hit the ball near the bottom.
Practice practice practice with your homemade goal
The most important tip for scoring big, is to practice your perfect shot. A lot. Until you can kick it towards the right spot in the goal. No matter whether you’re shooting from the flanks or the centre. And not just when standing still.
The wooden goal we'll be making is smaller than the official goals used in the European Football Championship. But that’s ok! Its smaller size makes it easy to move, so you can store it away after the football season or whenever you need to mow your lawn.

Ready to get started on your wooden goal? Here’s what you’ll need!
Before you get started, here’s a quick overview of the power tools you’ll need. First of all: a telescopic mitre saw, which ensures stable cutting and allows you to saw with precision, as your workpiece is clamped down firmly. Only the saw blade moves.

To assemble the wooden beams of the goal, you’ll have to get out your battery-powered impact drill/screwdriver. For lighter projects, a 12 V model will do the trick, but to be on the safe side, it’s better to opt for an 18 or 20 V impact drill and screwdriver.
And last but not least, you’ll need a net to hang in your goal, as well as a stapler to attach it. Take a look at our Kreator product range for those two items.
Alright, all set? Now get started on your wooden goal and enjoy your very own European Football Championship 2024!
